HonestAfford ("this site," "we") publishes a free home affordability calculator at honestafford.com. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. It describes what the site does today, not what it might do later.

The calculators

Every number you type into any of the three calculators — income, debts, down payment, credit score range, location, rent, utilities, home price and so on — is processed entirely in your browser. It is never sent to us, never stored, and never logged. Closing the tab clears it. There is no account, no login, and no saved history. We built it this way on purpose: the whole point of these tools is a number you can trust, and a number you can trust starts with a tool that isn't quietly collecting what you type into it.

Two of the calculators can hand figures to one another, and the rent vs buy calculator can produce a link that reopens it with your figures already filled in. In both cases the numbers travel in the part of a web address after the # symbol. Browsers never transmit that part to a server, so those figures do not reach us, our host, or anyone else — they exist only in your own browser, and in whatever you choose to copy and paste. Nothing is written to a cookie or to browser storage, and no income figure is ever carried between pages.

The contact form

The contact page is different, and it is the only part of this site that sends anything to us. When you submit it, the name, email address and message you enter are transmitted to a serverless function hosted by Netlify, which passes them to Mailgun, our email delivery provider, so the message can reach our inbox. We use that information solely to read and reply to you. We do not add contact-form addresses to any mailing list and we do not sell or share them.

Please don't include Social Security numbers, account numbers, or other sensitive financial details in a contact message. Email is not a secure channel and we don't need that information to answer a question.

Hosting and server logs

This site is hosted on Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify processes standard technical request data as part of serving pages — IP address, browser and device user-agent, the page requested, and a timestamp — and retains it in server logs. We don't use those logs for anything beyond troubleshooting and security.

Abuse prevention

To stop automated spam, the contact endpoint is rate limited by IP address: Netlify counts recent requests from an address at its edge and temporarily refuses further submissions from an address that exceeds the limit. This uses your IP address for the sole purpose of counting requests, and it applies only to the contact endpoint, not to reading pages.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

This site currently sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and serves no ads. There is no Google Analytics, no AdSense, no tag manager, no tracking pixel, and no browser storage used to identify you. Nothing on this site follows you to other sites.

We may add analytics or advertising later, because this site is free and has to pay for itself somehow. If we do, we will update this page before or when those services go live, and this section will say exactly what is running and what it collects.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are, or will be, affiliate links — if you click through and take an action with one of our partners, we may earn a commission. This never changes the price you pay, and it never changes the numbers the calculator shows you; those are computed on your device and don't know which lender you click. Affiliate partners may set their own cookies to track referrals once you land on their site; their handling of your data is governed by their privacy policies, not this one.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

Because the calculator runs entirely in your browser, there is no stored calculator data to request, correct, or delete — we never received it. If you have sent us a contact message and want it deleted from our inbox, ask through the contact form or by email and we will remove it.
